Yesterday was a rather warm day here in our nation’s capital, and at the end of the day I actually had it in mind to pour myself at least one glass of chilled cider from the keg. Sadly, that was not to be as I placed the glass under the tap in anticipation I depressed the tap handle a small delay of inactivity was followed very quickly by a projectile of grayish material being thrust violently into my previously clear glass followed by two distinct bombardments of foam signifying I had hit the bottom of the keg. Empty keg equals frowny face. And although what was deposited in my glass was still cider and safe to consume it did not resemble what I had created, and so with solemnity I poured that crap down the drain, and looked to the carboy in the cider room that contained the next 5 gallon batch ready to be finished and kegged, and wished I’d set up 2 kegs instead of only one. Well, the silver lining here is that hopefully when one keg is emptied there is another full carboy ready to be emptied into that keg.
