Saturday morning in the DC area brought, wait for it, yes even more snow. Yay! Today is forecast to be the heaviest of this blizzard aptly named “Jonas”. I awoke around 4:30 with a premonition that my house had lost power. Such was not the case, luckily! I did however open my door to find snow covering the threshold and eager to spill into the breezeway and my proximity my feet when I opened the front door. With that chilling discovery, literally chilling as I did not yet have my boots on. Being chilled awake I suited up determined not to let Old Man Winter make me cry “matte” in this winter kumite. I worked in phase first shoveling the steps to make it to the walk, and spent a good 20-30 minutes clearing about 6-8 linear feet including the steps and stoop. A few places snow had drifted causing more effort to make any headway. This snow was surprisingly dry and fluffy and luckily not wet and dense. Each shovel load weighed about 8-10 pounds, and after I made sufficient progress before breakfast and coffee I placed some rock salt on my newly reclaimed sidewalk to guard against a counter attack by Jonas. It’s funny that a severe winter event is named after a Boy Band member or more to the point what I feel someone would be named who would inexplicably be a member of a Boy Band.
