This isn’t meant to be a knock against Detroit or any other locale in the Midwest with deep automotive roots. No, this is “would you believe…” sort of trivia. So how many of you thought Indiana didn’t even make cars? How many thought maybe only one or two companies set up shop there? How many thought the over mitt state had the monopoly? Well, the historical record shows that over 400 different companies-marques produced cars in the Hoosier state between the latter part of the 19th and early part of 20th centuries!! It may be difficult to drill down to an exact number, but the fact remains that the automotive industry thrived in Indiana even if only for a short time. Growing up in Indiana I was well versed with all things Hoosier basketball to big industry.
