Was anyone else surprised by this weekend’s results? And I’m not talking about the Turner BWM teammates engaging in a little BMW on BMW action in IMSA’s Weathertech Sports Car Championship finale the “Petit LeMans” at Road Atlanta (No, that gem will be the topic of a separate post). No, the surprise I’m referring to is the “luck” that Lewis Hamilton experienced with a new power plant (changed just the prior race) failing in a most spectacular fashion. And by spectacular, I mean by flame spewing race ending fashion. The flames, and Lewis’ chance to win the GP both emerged and ended on the 43rd lap. A slightly less sensational surprise, but a surprise nonetheless is Daniel Ricciardo’s new tradition of the “shoey”? Drinking from your driving shoe just seems like more punishment, and not a reward. The last thing to take away from this Grand Prix, besides the Malaysian heat, is the 3 place grid penalty that Sebastian Vettel incurred for causing an accident. He will serve that penalty at next weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix.
