Here’s the scenario. Someone’s returning from a 4 day weekend with stops in Birmingham, Leeds, and Lincoln all of which were in Alabama. Why? Good times, that’s why! Those names sound distinctively like cities in the UK, right? Ok passing tangent never mind. Now for your next two questions; what does LOG 37 and Heimatfest mean?? LOG 37 stands for Lotus Owners Gathering # 37. Heimatfest in this case is an automotive celebration of all things German with four wheels. Ok, so a guy I know (let’s call him my dad) hooked me up with an invite to attend this event. This Heimatfest is the annual gathering in the years between StarFest organized by Mercedes Benz Club of America. StarFest occurs bi-annually on even numbered years, and is not to be missed or so I’m told.
The gist of it is simple, a car club puts on an event that involves Talladega and Barber Motorsports Park. This year various chapter of Lotus Clubs in the region planned it out, and the Mercedes Benz Club of America tacked on the event for their members. Think fast, do you go? Um, yeah you go! The chance to drive at Talladega both on the track, and compete on an autocross course then take in the Barber Historics (vintage auto race comprised of several classes) is not to be missed! It was a blast, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that with any event this size there are bound to be some logistical oversights. And there were, and some were challenging at times. Overall though I had a great time, and appreciate the idea for the event. What I didn’t enjoy however was the massive drive back to DC passing from rain shower to rain shower on I-81. That did not make me a happy camper.
I’ll be posting some pics and videos of the event, so check back!
