It’s happened to all of us at one time or another I’m guessing, you arrive a few minutes past the generally accepted time established by your employer as detailed in the ever thorough employee handbook for your company. Now, odds are there are a number of bona fide “reasons” you can pull from your playbook: vehicle accident, plane landing on the road, unicorn sighting, broken down vehicle blocking a lane, construction,
However if you happen to reside in DC, you have another “reason”. And it’s quite possible you’ve experienced it. It goes like this, you leave the house in the morning and make great time on your way to the office where you are never late and always productive. Suddenly what appears ahead in the upcoming intersection is none other than a motorcycle officer of the Metropolitan Police Department motioning both directions of traffic to “hold fast” and not proceed into the intersection. That’s funny, you didn’t notice any motor vehicle accident or other form of unrest that would hinder traffic on what was an otherwise normal congestion free commute in the nation’s capital. Nope, upon a second inspection nothing jumps out at you until…yes it’s becoming clear, this officer is a vanguard for the one commuter in the district capable of making every other nearby vehicle come to a standing halt, the president of the United States. That was my “reason” today.
